If you are considering either an assessment using any of the SEI's methods (SW-CMM Based Appraisal for Internal Process Improvement (CBA IPI) or CMMI or People-CMM (P-CMM), then you want the expert and experienced services of Software Technology Transition.
An appraisal follows a defined method (SCAMPI) used to provide an accurate picture of the strengths and weaknesses of an organization's current software, system, and people processes, using a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) as a reference model. The results of an assessment identify process areas for improvement. Process areas are model subsets to enable and understanding and help focus improvement actions for an organization. Appraisals are also used to support, enable, and encourage an organization's commitment to software, systems, and people process improvement. Appraisals are an integral part of the diagnosing phase of the IDEAL approach to software process improvement.
We train your personnel who are then part of the team which is led by an STT staff member Lead Assessor. This version is preferred by organizations where multiple appraisals will be performed, where personnel are on a path to become Lead Assessors, or where an organization wants full active participation with appointed process change agents.
We train your personnel who are then part of the team which is led by an STT staff member Lead Appraiser. This version is preferred by organizations where multiple appraisals will be performed, where personnel are on a path to become Lead Appraisers, or where an organization wants full active participation with appointed process change agents.
STT will perform SCAMPI A, B, or C appraisals as required by the customer.
STT performs the appraisal with one or two STT members. This version is preferred by smaller organizations or those who will not be performing a large number of appraisals.
NOTE: these are not formal assessments, but have been employed successfully by a number of STT clients who desire to control costs while moving up the vectors for the CMMI or P-CMM.
STT Appraisers
CMMI
One STT member lead one of the early pilots for the CMMI using the staged representation for both software and systems.
STT has three Lead Appraisers authorized to lead CMMI based appraisals.
Our experience includes both technical and managerial responsibilities in different types of software projects. We have been developing and using software process improvement solutions since 1970.
Our staff has been actively involved in the work of the Software Engineering Institute and has had experience developing, implementing, and teaching courses including Software Inspections, Metrics, and other Software Engineering disciplines.
The STT staff has had experience with organizations at all CMMI levels.
The staff at Software Technology Transition (STT) have been leading assessments/appraisals since 1983 when two members of the staff, while working at IBM, defined an assessment method which was the predecessor to the SEI's Software Process Assessment (SPA). STT staff led over 40 assessments across the commercial and government sectors of IBM.
Beginning in 1990 we led over 20 assessments in the USA and Europe using the SEI's SPA with a tailored and extended method fully based on the CMM across different organization types and sizes. This extended method subsequently was a strong influence on the SEI's CBA IPI method when one of the STT staff worked with SEI as a Visiting Scientist.
The staff of Software Technology Transition was part of the team that developed the current SEI appraisal method, CBA IPI. Recently STT staff have participated in the training of future Lead Assessors for the CBA IPI at SEI. Three members of Software Technology Transition are authorized as Lead Assessors by the SEI.
Since the inception of CBA IPI, STT has performed well over 100 assessments worldwide in the USA, India, France, Italy, England, the Netherlands. Japan, Korea, Australia, and Canada. These assessments span all five levels within the SW-CMM.
Since SCAMPI, STT has performed the largest appraisal of record with the TCS enterprise worldwide and STT team members have lead other SCAMPI A appraisals.
PCMM
STT has one authorized PCMM appraiser.
One STT team member was the primary author for the SCAMPI PCMM Method Description Definition guide.
